Tainan 台南 | Xiluo Temple 西羅殿

Xiluo temple is located near ancient Wutiao Harbor (aka five canal 五條港) in Tainan city, and the main deity is King of Broad Blessings (廣澤尊王). Most of the local people are descendents of the Guo (郭) clan of Nan’an (南安) county in Fujian (福建) province, China who made tow-ropes for the dock. The ancestors of these people originated from the countryside and invoked blessings from Revered King of Broad Blessings and offered sacrifices to him. Also, he is commonly venerated by pharmacists and geomancers.. At the time there was only one small temple called the Temple of the Holy King (聖王公館). Later the name was changed to the Phoenix Mountain Temple (鳳山寺), and again changed to the name it has today.

Other than Revered King of Broad Blessings as the main god to be sacrificed to, there are also accompanying gods such as Revered King of Broad Blessings's wife (Miaoying Xianfei [妙應仙妃]). The area where people sacrifice to Xianfei is called "Shande Hall (善德堂)" the construction materials in the back and in Xiluo Temple are the same. Besides this, Revered King of Broad Blessings's 13 sons are also there and referred to as "The Wild Bunch (十三太保)."

Revered King of Broad Blessings 's birthday falls on February 22 of the Lunar calendar and the week preceding August 22 is a holiday as well. People continuously pour into the temple to burn incense during this time.
